Abstract

With its 448 km long, The Porsuk River formed by the merger of Bayatçık and Kızıltaş Stream is the longest arm of The Sakarya River. After passing from Kütahya Plain and being collected in Porsuk-I and Porsuk-II dam located in the northwest of Eskişehir, it passes through Eskişehir dam and Eskişehir province and finally reaches Sakarya River. The Porsuk River is used as irrigation of agricultural land in Eskişehir. As with all in Central Anatolia, Cucumis sativus (L.) is also among the most common horticultural plants cultivated in Eskişehir. At first glance it does not seem so important but Cucumis sativus is a rich vegetation in terms of vitamins, enzymes, mineral substances. However, it is poor one with respect to protein, carbohydrates and fats. In this study, in order to germinate the seeds, city water and water samples of the Porsuk River diluted at different rates and taken from stations determined in and outside the city have been used. By measuring root-body length and root fresh and dry weight of body of seedlings, the effects of city water and water of the Porsuk Rivers on the development of seedlings have been investigated. According to the obtained data, the root length was found to increase with the decreased dilution ratio of river water and water amount was found to increase with the decreased dilution ratio of river water
