Response of cereal supply in Burkina Faso to the introduction of agribusiness

Abstract

 Since 1990, cereal production in the former Sissili in Burkina Faso has experienced sustained growth, which some consider extensive despite the introduction of agribusiness around 1995. This study was therefore conducted to identify the determinants of this growth and the impact of the agrobusiness introduction on these. For this purpose the Nerlove production-function was used to identify the determinants of production of the main cereals from time series data. In addition, the breakpoint in average tests of Alexandersson on these series were applied to detect the changes induced by the introduction of agribusiness. According to this study, the production of different cereals depends on areas planted, rainfall, past production and not price. In addition, the main cereal (corn) exploited by agribusiness men has not experienced a average-break in its yield. Finally, the price does not influence the quantities produced and reflects that production is always subsistence and not profit-oriented despite the introduction of agribusiness.

Burkina Faso’daki ticari tarım işletmelerinin tahıl sektörüne girişinin arz duyarlılığı

Abstract

Burkina Faso’da eski Sissili’de 1990'dan beri tahıl üretimi
artmaktadır. Bu üretim artışının nedeni 1995 yılından itibaren büyük
işletmelerin artışı ve gelişimi olarak düşünülebilir. Bu çalışma, bu büyümenin
belirleyicilerini tanımlamak ve tarımsal işletmelerin büyüme üzerindeki
etkisini belirlemek için yapılmıştır. Bu amaçla, zaman serisi verileri
kullanılarak belli başlı tahılların üretiminde etkili olan faktörleri
belirlemek için Nerlove üretim fonksiyonu kullanılmıştır. Ayrıca bu zaman
serileri üzerinde Alexandersson’un ortalama testlerdeki kesme noktası, tarımsal
işletmelerden kaynaklanan değişiklikleri belirlemek için uygulanmıştır. Bu
çalışmaya göre farklı tahılların üretimi fiyata değil, ekilen alan, yağış ve
geçmişteki üretime bağlıdır. Buna ek olarak, temel ürün olan mısır üretiminde
üreticiler mısır veriminde bir ortalama değeri elde edememişlerdir.  Sonuç olarak, fiyat üretim miktarını
etkilememekte, büyük işletmelerin sektöre giriş yapmasına rağmen üretim hala
kâr odaklı olmayıp, geçimlik üretim şeklindedir.
