Effects of Ganoderma lucidum in some neurological diseases

Ganoderma lucidum has been widely used in Asian countries for
hundreds of years to promote health and longevity. The pharmacological
functions of which had been reported, are the activation of innate immune
responses, suppression of tumour and modulation of cell proliferations.
Effective fractions of Ganoderma lucidum
polysaccharides had already been reported to regulate the immune system. In
recent years, studies on the neuroprotective effects of G. lucidum have begun to intensify. G. lucidum is believed to have a neuro-protective effect and this
notion is supported by work carried out by scientists. Spesifically wherein a
mixture of triterpenoid compounds in G.
lucidum
promoted neuronal survival and reduced fatigue. In addition, the
potential use of this fungus for the treatment of neurological diseases has
also been examined. It was shown that long-term consumption of G. lucidum can decrease the progression
of Alzheimer’s disease. This observed neuroprotective effect is achieved by
promotion of neuritogenesis and reduction of senescence of the neurons. To
summarize the studies on the neuroprotective effects of the intended G. lucidum, we want to shed some light
on those who wish to study in this regard.
