Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

Publication Ethics
Beykent University Journal of Science and Engineering Sciences is based on the principles of producing, developing, evaluating and sharing the processes of interdisciplinary studies, especially in the field of engineering and basic sciences, in an impartial way with the scientific method. It is very important that the work of all stakeholders, namely authors, editors, referees, publishers and readers, who produce a scientific study, comply with scientific ethical principles.

When situations such as manipulating, distorting and using fabricated data used in the articles are detected, this situation will be reported to the institution where the article author works, and the article will be rejected. The use of data that does not comply with ethical rules is the responsibility of the authors, and the detected deficiencies will be reported to the author's institution and the article will be rejected. For peer-reviewed studies that support scientific methods, ethical responsibilities are expected by all stakeholders within the scope of publication ethics of Beykent University Journal of Science and Engineering Sciences.

The publication and ethical rules of the studies submitted to the Beykent University Journal of Science and Engineering Sciences were arranged in line with the guidelines and policies published in the open access COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics).

Every article submitted to the Beykent University Journal of Science and Engineering Sciences and even after its publication, the Editorial Board ensures that the journal policies such as publication, blind refereeing, evaluation process, and ethical principles are determined and implemented.

Ethical Responsibilities of Editors

  •  An editor (field editors, associate editors, etc.) should impartially evaluate all submitted manuscripts based on specific characteristics, regardless of race, religion, nationality, gender, seniority or institutional affiliation of the author(s).
  • An editor should review and process a manuscript submitted for publication at reasonable speed.
  • An editor takes sole responsibility for accepting or rejecting an article for publication.
  • An editor may seek help on an article from experts selected for their expertise and fair judgment.
  • The editor should not disclose the information about the evaluated manuscript to anyone other than the author and appointed referees until the evaluation process is completed.
  • An editor should respect the intellectual independence of authors.

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors
Articles submitted to Beykent University Journal of Science and Engineering should not contain plagiarism and should be original. The author(s) who submit a study to the Beykent University Journal of Science and Engineering are expected to comply with the ethical responsibilities stated below:

  • The evaluation process of the articles found to contain plagiarism is stopped. Intellectual property rights should not be violated in articles.
  • The author/authors have the right to withdraw the article, provided that they notify the journal editorial board, until the publication decision is taken for the article they have sent.
  • Author(s) should not use discriminatory language on the basis of belonging and identities such as gender, race, language, belief, culture, class, age, opinion, group and sexual orientation.
  • They are responsible for specifying the stakeholders involved in the studies. The person(s) who have a significant share in their work should be specified as co-authors.
  • The consent of all authors is required for the publication of the study. It should not be recommended to change the author order, remove or add an author for an article that has been applied for publication.
  • Authors are responsible for acting in accordance with current copyright law principles. If information or data is requested from the authors during the evaluation process, they should submit the requested information to the journal editor. They are also responsible for fulfilling and presenting the revision suggestions of the referees and editors.
  • All sources of financial support received for the study should be clearly identified and disclosed any conflicts of interest that are thought to affect the results or interpretation of the manuscript.
  • When the author/authors discover a serious error or mistake in a published article, they should notify the journal editor without delay.
  • The author(s) who submit an article to Beykent University Journal of Science and Engineering Sciences are deemed to have committed/accepted the stated ethical rules clearly and voluntarily.

Plagiarism and Unethical Behaviors

All of the articles sent to Beykent University Journal of Science and Engineering Sciences are checked using the iThenticate plagiarism detection software, and in line with the similarity report determined by the software, the editorial board decides to send the article for peer review or directly reject it. Except for the highest bibliography accepted by the journal, the similarity rate is 15%. Articles exceeding this rate are examined in detail. If deemed necessary, it is sent back to the authors for revision or correction. If plagiarism is detected in the article, its publication is rejected.

Important Note: Non-university researchers can also apply to the Ethics Committees in their regions for their research.
