Agro-morphological and Pomological Characterization of Native Cactus Pear (Opuntia ficus-indica L.) Selected from Muğla District

Abstract

In this study, for the selection of clone candidate plants from the cactus pear (Opuntia ficus-indica L.) population in the natural growing areas of Köyceğiz and Ortaca (Muğla) regions, the agromorphologic and pomological characteristics of 60 cactus pear genotypes were evaluated according to the UPOV protocol. Research data of 15 genotypes that are considered suitable for breeder purposes as superior/different characteristics were presented. Qualitative morphological characterizations were described as; plant growth habit “upright”, plant height “tall”, cladode shape “narrow elliptical”, cladode spiny “very little”, number of thorns protruding from an areole is “few”, fruit shape is “elliptical”, fruit skin color is “orange”-“yellow”. The highest values according to pomological characteristic; fruit weight were 155.59 g (KH1), fruit length was 86.68 mm (OO6), fruit diameter was 53.76 (KB3) mm, fruit skin weight was 61.36 g (KH1). The highest number of seeds was counted in KH1 genotype with 231.66. The total soluble solid was found between 10.16 % (KH4) and 14.20 % (KH1), and the mean titratable acidity was detected between 0.03% (KH4, OR7) and 0.11% (KH1). According to the L* a* b* values of the fruit flesh color of genotypes ranged from dark yellow (KD5) to orange-light red (OO4). The ascorbic acid content of cactus pear fruits was detected ranging from 6.51 mg 100 g-1 to 17.25 mg 100 g-1. KH1 genotype had the highest characteristics in terms of fruit weight, fruit size, number of seeds and many pomological quality parameters.

Abstract

Köyceğiz ve Ortaca (Muğla) yöreleri doğal yetişme alanlarındaki dikenli incir (Opuntia ficus-indica L.) genotiplerinden klon adayı bitkilerin seçimine yönelik yapılan bu çalışmada; agromorfolojik ve pomolojik özellikleri UPOV protokolüne göre belirlenen 60 birey içerisinden üstün/farklı özellikleri bakımından ıslahçının amacına uygun görülen 15 genotipe ait bulgular sunulmuştur. Fenolojik dönemler; tomurcuk patlaması mart sonu ve nisan başı, tam çiçeklenme mayıs-haziran ayları süresince, derim zamanı ise ağustos-eylül ayları olarak gözlemlenmiştir. Kalitatif morfolojik özellikler; bitki büyüme şekli “dik”, bitki boyu “uzun”, klatod şekli “dar eliptik”, klatod dikenlilik durumu “çok az”, bir areolden çıkan diken sayısı “az”, meyve şekli “eliptik” meyve kabuk rengi “turuncu”- “sarı”, olarak gözlemlenmiştir. Pomolojik özellikler bakımından en yüksek değerler; meyve ağırlığı 155.59 g (KH1), meyve boyu 86.68 mm (OO6), meyve çapı 53.76 (KB3) mm ve meyve kabuk ağırlığı ise 61.36 g (KH1) olarak elde edilmiştir. En fazla tohum sayısı 231.66 adet ile KH1 genotipinde sayılmıştır. SÇKM değerleri %10.16 (KH4) ile %14.20 (KH1) arasında, ortalama TA %0.03 (KH4, OO7) ile % 0.11 (KH1) arasında bulunmuştur. Meyve et rengi (L* a* b*) değerlerine göre genotiplerin meyve et renklerinin koyu sarıdan (KD5) turuncu-açık kırmızıya (OO4) kadar değiştiği belirlenmiştir. Dikenli incir meyvelerinin askorbik asit içeriği 6.51 mg 100 g-1 ile 17.25 mg 100 g-1 arasında değişen miktarlarda bulunmuştur. KH1 genotipi ise meyve ağırlığı, meyve iriliği, tohum sayısı ve pomolojik birçok kalite parametresi bakımından en yüksek özelliklere sahip olmuştur.
