Determination of Harmful Pest Species of Leafly Vegetables in Middle Anatolia Region

Abstract

The vegetables are one of the major food groups which are consumed fresh throughout the year. Some pests have become a major problem in leaf vegetables in recent years. In order to identify these problems, the some studies were conducted between 2015 and 2017 in lettuce, parsley, mint, dill, cress, arugula and spinach growing areas of Ankara, Eskisehir and Konya provinces of the Central Anatolia Region, where the leafy vegetables are intensely produced. For this purpose, insects pest problems in the regions were managed using appropriate methods. The results indicated that the insects collected from the study belonged to the Coleoptera, Hemiptera, Lepidoptera, Thysanoptera and Diptera. The identified important harmful species were Phyllotreta atra and Phyllotreta cruciferae, on arugula and cress, and Nasonovia ribisnigri, Aphis gossypii and Helicoverpa armigera, on lettuce.
