The aim of this study was to determine the adaptation
traits of Holstein and Simmental cattle’s raised at Kahramanmaraş rural
conditions. The data for the study was consisted of life insured Holstein and
Simmental cattle raised at the region between 2008 and 2016. Overall, the
mean rates of cattle mortality and rate of compulsory slaughter were 5.0%
and 10.1% for Holstein, 2.3% and 4.5% for Simmental cattle’s,
respectively. The means for the abortion rates and calves mortalities up
to seven days of ages were also found as 8.9% and 10.3 for Holstein, 8.3% and
12.4% for Simmental cattle’s. Meanwhile, 156.4% of collected insurance premiums
of Holstein and 73.6% of collected insurance premiums of Simmental were
compensated to grower for the damage. According to the research findings,
Simmental race was found better in strength and adaptability to stay alive.
Nevertheless, there was no difference between Holstein and Simmental breeds in
terms of the abortion rates and calves mortalities.
