Effect of Foliar Boron and Proline Applications on Some Biochemical Properties in Soybean (Glycine max L.)

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the regulatory effects of proline (0, 10 and 20 ppm) against boron (0, 2.5, 5, and 10 ppm) toxicity on some biochemical properties of soybean (Glycine max L.) plants. In the research, the levels of lipid peroxidation (MDA), chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, total chlorophyll, total antioxidant activity, total phenolic content, and total flavonoid content were investigated in soybean after application. As a result of the study, it was determined that boron applications in soybean plants increased MDA, chlorophyll a, anthocyanin, phenolic values, and chlorophyll b, total chlorophyll, but total flavonoid content first increased and then decreased (the highest values are usually obtained at a boron dose of 5 ppm (B2)). There was a continuous decrease in carotenoid values compared to the control group. Proline applications had a positive and regulatory effect on total phenolic and flavonoid contents against boron toxicity. The data obtained show that boron applications significantly increase antioxidant capacity, total phenolic and flavonoid content, and chlorophyll levels in the plant, with the most balanced and high results obtained especially at a boron (B2) dose of 5 ppm. Proline applications, on the other hand, suppressed biochemical parameters at high doses, and it was determined that control-to-low doses (P0–P10) produced more positive effects in combination with boron.
